Inter-provincial rugby starts today

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 27: Eight teams will take part in the first two-day Inter-provincial rugby championship at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex from Tuesday. President Rugby Union of Pakistan (own group) Riaz Fatyana said at a press conference that besides four provinces the teams from Islambad, Azad Jammu Kashmir, Northern Areas and FATA had reached Lahore to take part in the event.

The championship will start with the opening match between Northern Areas and Islamabad. In all, eight matches will be played on first day and four on the second day.

Fatyana said that his group had made all efforts to introduce the game in all areas of the country while his rival group had been running the sport at club level.

He said soon the infighting between two groups would conclude as the National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports would meet at Islamabad on Dec 2 to resolve this issue.

He said the sports committee had also summoned officials of the Pakistan Sports Board in the meeting to settle the issue between two groups.
