KHAIRPUR, Nov 27: Wheat growers of the district staged a demonstration here on Monday in protest against shortage and black marketing of DAP, urea and other fertilisers.

They also raised slogans against officials of the agriculture department.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the Khairpur Abadgar Ittehad, said that unavailability of fertilisers had created problems for them during wheat sowing season.

They said that the agents were selling DAP and urea at higher rates, and added that the government had announced a subsidy of Rs250 per bag of DAP but the growers of the district had to purchase the same for Rs 900-1000.

They said that during December and January, the farmers may face problems while purchasing fertilisers.

They said that none of the district administration or concerned officials of agriculture department was ready to take action.

KIDNAPPED: Armed men kidnapped Lutfullah Larik 50, near Bahar Larik village, Kingri taluka, late on Sunday night.

Gunmen kidnapped him while he was sleeping in the sugarcane field.

A large number of people from Khuhro community along with other villagers, held a protest gathering in Mehro Wahan, Gambat taluka, on Monday against failure of police to recover them.
