KARACHI: NA-250 by-election: six candidates file papers

KARACHI, Nov 27: Six candidates, including a woman, filed their nomination papers on Monday for the by-elections for the National Assembly seat NA-250. Returning Officer, Additional District and Sessions Judge, South, Ghulam Mustafa Memon received the papers.
The seat has fallen vacant following the demise of Abdul Sattar Afghani of MMA on November 4.
Four of the candidates – Ms Fauzia Khalil Khan, Syed Akhlaq Hussain, Syed Rasheed Ahmed and Ameer Raza Nancy – belong to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. Mehfooz Yar Khan of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League and Raja Arif Sultan Minhas, an independent, are the other candidates.
The Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have not so far fielded their candidates. The last date for filing nomination papers is November 28.
The NA-250 constituency has two cantonment boards -- Clifton and Karachi Cantonment Boards, besides the areas under the administrative control of the City Government, including Aram Bagh, Habib Bank Plaza, Sindh Madressah, Swami Narain Temple etc of Seraj Quarters, Bottle Gali, Light House, Siraj Quarters (Part) Pakistan Chowk, Railway Colony, City Station, Ratan Talao (Part), Urdu Bazar Area, Preedy Police Quarters, Burns Road, parts of Saddar, Bohri Bazaar, Lucky Star, Pakistan Secretariat, Allahwali Colony, Electronic Market, A.M. Quarters, Kashmir Mujahid Colony, Police Staff Quarters, PIDC House, State Life Building , the Governor’s House, the Chief Minister’s House, Bagh Quaid-i-Azam, Qasr-i-Naz, Daudpota Road, Civil Lines, Bath Island, GOR Colony, Tekri Colony, Frere and Clifton, Meherabad, Teen Talwar, Railway Quarters, Reti Lane, Kehkashan Clifton Block No.7 & 5, Mohatta Palace, Old Clifton, Shah Rasool Colony, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Gizri, Kehkashan Colony Block- 1, Clifton Block-2 (Part), Mazar Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Clifton Garden I & II, Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim, PWD Officers’ Flats, Amin Mansion, Superwala Compound, Mughal Chambers, Holy Family Hospital, Makki Masjid, HQ Cost Guards, Yasin Plaza, Asif Plaza, Habib Girls School, IBA Depot Lines, Islamic Club, Army Officers’ Bungalows, Prince Cinema, Al-Amna Plaza, Sea Breeze Hospital, Seventh Day Hospital, Mayfair Centre, City View Flats and Grammar School.
The areas falling in the Karachi Cantanoment Board include Rainbow Centre, Allahwala Hall, Central Brooks Memorial Church, Court View Apartments, Lakson Square, Karachi Press Club, Military Accounts Office, State Life Building, Trinity Church, Rainbow Centre, Services Club, Panorama Centre, Avari Towers, Staff Lines, Bizerta Line (Part), Parsi Institute & Gymkhana, Naval Police Barracks, Hockey Club, Sea Breeze Plaza, Gora Qabristan, Naval Residences, Muslim Colony, Finance and Trade Centre and Umer Farooq Colony.
The areas falling in the Clifton Cantonment Board include DHA Phase-II Extension, Commercial Area and Extension, Central Area Phase-II, DHA Phase-III, Navy Colony, DHA-I (Part) Parsi Colony, Masoom Shah Colony No.2, Hazara Colony, Garden Apartments, Railway Colony (Part) PN Shifa Road to Hazara Road, Hazara Road to Railway Workshop, Pakistan Jamhooria Colony, Punjab Colony (Part) & Gabol Colony, Dehli Colony No.1 Bazaar Area, Street No.6 to 20, Dehli Colony No.2 (Tin Shed) and Madniabad, Nai Basti, Chandio Village, P & T Colony & Kehkashan Scheme-(Part) Neelam Colony and Bukhshan Village, besides DHA, Zamzama Boulevard, Sea View Villas, SRE-1 Naval and Race Course.
