KARACHI: Hawkesbay Extension Scheme next month

KARACHI, Nov 27: Sindh Minister for Local Government Muhammad Hussain has issued directive to ensure provision of potable water before handing over physical possession of plots in Hawkesbay Scheme.

While visiting various sectors of the scheme on Monday, he said that the Hawkesbay Extension Scheme would be launched next month under which 7,290 plots measuring 240 and 400 square yards would be offered in sectors 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 51, 52 and 53.

Mr Hussain directed the Lyari Development Authority to earmark 10 per cent plots for low-income government servants to help resolve their housing problems. Overseas Pakistanis will be offered plots in sector 2 of the scheme whereas sector 34 will be earmarked for a high-rise zone.

The minister said the main objective of his visit to the scheme was to personally witness the development work carried out by the LDA.

He described the steps taken by the LDA as ‘very commendable’.

Pointing out that housing is an important problem of this mega city, he said it’s getting complicated with the passage of time. “The government has attached top priority to this sector and announcement of this new housing scheme was an example,” he added.Mr Hussain stressed the need for imposing restriction on the sale of plots for a certain period starting with the physical possession for construction. He said if an allottee failed to start construction, his plot should be cancelled.

LDA Director General Mohammad Sarfaraz Khan informed the minister that in the Hawkesbay Scheme, 116 possession orders had been issued but no allottee had been given physical possession so far.

He said potable water would soon by provided in sector 11 of the scheme which was ready for possession of plots.

He apprised the minister of the Beach Avenue joint venture project, saying that it would have 471 flats and possession of 70 flats would be given in the next two months. The remaining ones would be handed over to their allottees over the next 18 months.

Besides an 11-inch-dia water pipeline, reverse osmoses plants were also being installed in the scheme to meet the drinking water requirement in the scheme, he added.—APP
