LAHORE, Nov 26: Fancied chestnut colt, Chan, showed power and majestic strides when winning the Makarwal Coal Mines Cup run over 1200m during the 13th Lahore Winter Meetings at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Backed at 70 to 100 favourite colt, trained by Sohail Aziz and flying colours of Syed Tasweer Hussain was ridden smartly by jockey Salah-ud-Din, Chan beat Swing by four lengths. Challenger and Lucky Murad completed the frame among nine starters.

The owner was grossly lucky as he had purchased the colt only a few days back and he proved his worth in gold.

Earlier in the third race chestnut colt, Headingley lived up to his name with comfortable success to annex the Khushab Cup run over 1000 m. Owned by Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz the odds-on favourite colt was partnered by jockey Shahid Rehman. He beat Royal Luck by a distance.

Bay colt Quwat blazed his way to victory in the Khalid Bin Waleed Cup contested over 1000m. He defeated Jewna by nine lengths.

Jockey Shaid Rehman and trainers Abdur Rasheed and Sohail Aziz shared the day's racing honours. Shahid partnered three winners, Rasheed sent out as many winners while Sohail Aziz saddled two winners.

Favourites made almost a clean sweep when seven out of eight races of the day's card were won by first favourites. The only long shot was Golden Goal, who beat favourite Nosha, ridden over confidently by Shahid Rehman.
