Published November 27, 2006

ATTOCK, Nov 26: The Ministry of Interior has approved setting up of Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) system in Attock District, which will start functioning in two months.

This was stated by Minister of State for Environment Malik Amin Aslam at a press conference here on Saturday. Director Immigration and Passports (I&P), Islamabad, was also present on the occasion.

The minister said a counter of Passport office set up at Nadra’s Attock branch three years ago was closed down last year after the ban on the issuance of manual passports. Ever since, people of the district have been facing inconvenience as they now have to travel to Islamabad and Rawalpindi to get MRPs, he said.—Correspondent
