KARACHI, Nov 26: Some 125 CNG busses would be added to the city’s transport network by the end of next month as a foreign firm, the Holland Bus Company, has pledged to bring the fleet to city roads and also expressed its readiness to establish a bus manufacturing plant in Karachi to meet its future requirement.
A delegation of the firm called on City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal here on Sunday and showed interest in improving the city’s transport system.
The delegation assured the nazim that the firm could easily meet the target of brining 8,000 CNG buses in the metropolis over the next two years and for the purpose, it was ready to establish a bus manufacturing plant.
The delegation members said that in the first phase, 125 buses could be imported from the firm. At present, some 24 persons were being trained in Holland for operating these buses and after getting fully trained, they would impart training to more people in Karachi.
The nazim assured the delegation of full cooperation on behalf of the city government, and expressed the view that the induction of modern CNG buses would cater to the needs of hundreds of thousands of commuters, besides alleviating poverty as the venture would definitely create job opportunities for the local people.
