KARACHI, Nov 26: The town nazim of Saddar, Dilawar Khan, said that work on the reconstruction of Marriott Road and other adjoining streets would be completed within a month.

He stated this while talking to the acting president of the KCCI, A. Abdullah Zaki, during a meeting on Saturday evening.

Abdullah Zaki urged the town nazim to make coordinated efforts to develop public-partnership between the chamber and town administration for the betterment of the city.

During the meeting, law and order situation in the town and other issues like traffic congestion in various commercial areas, poor sanitation, encroachments, damaged roads and pending reconstruction works particularly in Kharadar, Mithadar, Jodia Bazaar and Marriott Road etc, came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, the town nazim said measures were being taken by the town administration to resolve these problems.

He said that contour plan of Saddar Town area indicated that the town was lower than the surface of Lyari River and there was no gravitational force for sewerage water to flow out.

As a result, we have to pump out sewerage water into the sea from three main collections points; he said adding many pumping stations to pump out the sewerage water were outdated and Rs1 billion were needed for their repairs.

Mr Khan said the town had already prepared feasibility on these issues and sought funds from the provincial government in this regard.

He said that the town administration had earmarked three places for construction of commercial parking plazas to overcome the parking problems in the town, and also invited the KCCI to form community board and propose civic projects.

He said 20 per cent of the funds should be contributed by the community board, while eighty per cent would be provided by the local government.
