KARACHI, Nov 26: The Sindh education department will take all possible steps for promotion of literacy and provision of educational facilities in the resettlement sites of Lyari Expressway.
This was stated by Sindh Education Secretary Sabhago Khan Jatoi, during a visit to second resettlement site of Taiser Town adjoining Gulshan-i-Maymar and Hub River road and third site of Baldia Town.
He said that primary schools in these settlements would be upgraded to elementary level and computer education would also be provided to the students.
For this purpose computer laboratories will be established in every school of these settlements for which infrastructure will be provided by the education department, he informed.
The education department, Mr Jatoi said, would also organise training programmes for the teachers of these schools.
LERP Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha thanked Mr Jatoi for his visit to the resettlement sites and said that more schools would be needed to in these resettlement sites.
He informed that at present 30 schools were functioning in two shifts in the project sites with an enrolment of over 10,000 children.
Mr Paracha said the children studying in these government-run schools were provided uniforms, shoes, books etc free of cost while local educated girls had been appointed as community teachers to overcome the shortage of teachers.
Mr Jatoi said that a technical institute would also be established in the resettlement sites to impart technical education to students after their matriculation.—APP
