KARACHI: MMA rally resolves to resist secularism

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 26: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged a rally on M. A. Jinnah Road on Sunday to condemn the government for ‘violating the heavenly set limits and promoting obscenity’ in the country.

The rally, titled ‘Tahaffuz-i-Hudood Allah March’, started from the Guru Mandir roundabout and culminated at the Sea Breeze roundabout.

Prominent MMA leaders, including Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Liaquat Baloch and Asadullah Bhutto, addressed the rally and reiterated the resolve that the alliance would fight till last for the protection of Islamic system, culture and values in the country and would resist tooth and nail all moves by the Musharraf regime to introduce secularism and western culture.

Many of the rally participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the women protection bill, obscenity, secularism and promotion of western culture.

They declared that the MMA and people of Pakistan would not allow the rulers to exploit womenfolk in the name of protection of their rights through the recently adopted bill.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed strongly condemned the government for violating the heavenly set limits in its efforts to change Islamic values and the country’s culture and resolved that leaders, activists and supporters of MMA would fight till the last drop of their blood for protection of Hudood Allah and Islamic laws.

He also criticised the Pakistan People’s Party for supporting the government-sponsored bill in the National Assembly even when as many as 40 legislators from the ruling PML had not backed it. He said that Mr Nawaz Sharif should clarify his party’s position vis-à-vis the women protection bill.

Without naming any party or leader, he warned that anyone speaking against the Pakistan ideology and leaders of Pakistan Movement while sitting in London would have to face the wrath of patriot Pakistanis.

Mr Liaquat Baloch declared that this massive rally was a manifestation of the masses’ sentiments. He accused General Pervez Musharraf of having sacrificed the country’s independence and sovereignty, besides making attempts to deface Islamic. He said that after quitting the assemblies, the MMA leaders would bring down the autocratic regime of the military ruler, who was bent upon transforming the Islamic culture of Pakistan into a western lifestyle.

He also warned the government that its dream of splitting the MMA would shatter on Nov 30 when the alliance would hold massive march from Lahore to Gujarat under the leadership of Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Mr Asadullah Bhutto recalled that ulema nominated from the government and opposition side had unanimously rejected the bill, which he termed ‘Pervezi Bill’, for being contrary to the teachings of the Holy Quran and spirit of Sunnah.

Mr Hashim Siddiqui said this mammoth rally had once again proved that Karachi was not a city of the supporters of any ethnic or nationalist group, but slaves of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who would never hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the supremacy of Islam.

Mr Siddique Rathor, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Aslam Ghauri, Allama Nazir Abbas Naqvi, Allama Arshad Zahid and Nasrullah Shaji also addressed the rally.
