Procedure for refund claims

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: The Central Board of Revenue has asked exporters to file all necessary documents till December 31, 2006 for getting their sales tax refunds pending with the sales tax department.

An official announcement issued here on Saturday said that all those exporters could process their refund claims which were due prior to July 1, 2006 subject to the furnishing of supportive documents along with the prescribed RCPS data latest by December next.

The decision would help in reducing the problems being faced by genuine exporters on this account as well as keeping in view CBR’s policy to liquidate refund pendency and minimise frivolous litigations and further that the new measures were not specifically publicised.

The Sales Tax Rules, 2006 effective from July 1, 2006 required that no refund claim shall be entertained if the claimant fails to furnish the claim on the prescribed software along with the supportive documents within 60 days of the filing of the relevant return. This has created problems for those exporters who were looking for their refunds due earlier to the July last.

The CBR directed the field formations to inform all trade bodies within their respective jurisdictions so as to ensure that the facility being provided was availed by all claimants in respect of their due and admissible refunds.
