KARACHI: Muttahida legislators ask MMA leaders to resign

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 24: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNAs in a joint statement have said with the adoption of Women Protection Bill, the religious parties had suffered a defeat in the National Assembly and the Senate and after passage of the bill, the leaders of MMA, and particularly Jamaat-i-Islami should now carry out their threat of resigning from the Senate, NA and PAs and part ways with the provincial governments where they are ruling in coalition.

In a statement, the MQM legislators said MMA and JI leaders not only misled the people over WPB by terming the bill un-Islamic and against the Shariat but had also threatened to resign from the assemblies if the bill was passed. The MQM legislators pointed out that even after the passage of a week after adoption of the bill, the leaders of these parties had neither resigned from the assemblies nor informed the people which clause of the bill was against Islam and the Shariat.
