KARACHI: MMA holds protest demos against women’s bill

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 24: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged protest demos after Friday prayers outside different mosques in the city against adoption of the women’s protection bill.

Addressing the demos arranged on the appeal of MMA movement for Tahaffuz Hudood-i-Allah and Ittehad Tanzeemat Madaris Diniah, MMA leaders accused the rulers for working against solidarity of the country on the behest of the US.

Addressing a demonstration at Pathan Masjid Moosa Lane, Lyari, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui termed the bill a conspiracy to promote obscenity and said with its adoption, English laws were given priority over Islamic laws. But, he said Ulema had totally rejected the bill. He said the measures being taken by General Musharraf were not only against country’s solidarity but also against the Islamic ideology of Pakistan.

The MMA would take out a big protest rally against the bill on Sunday, he added.

Muhammad Hussain Mehnti,Yunus Barai and Shabbir Abu Talib also spoke.
