Textile exports decline by 5.2pc

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: The export of textile products declined by 5.23 per cent to $783.883 million during October 2006 against $827.174 million the same month last year.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) data released on Friday showed that export of textile products except a few items recorded a negative growth during the month under review.

The export of readymade garments fell 5.21 per cent during October 2006 over the same month last year. While the raw cotton, cotton yarn and cotton cloth saw 21.98pc, 4.49pc and 30.36pc slump in their exports respectively.

The export of cotton carded, bedwear, made-up articles, including other textiles and towels decreased by 57.06pc, 20.10pc, 14.59pc and 18.36pc, respectively during the month over corresponding month last year.

However, the export of yarn other than cotton yarn registered a growth of 55.57 per cent, knitwear 20.82 per cent and other textile materials 64.98 per cent during October 2006 over the same month last year.
