KARACHI, Nov 23: Fast bowler Mohammad Sami was on Thursday named in the Pakistan squad for next week’s third and final Test against the West Indies in Karachi.

Sami, who had been out of favour with the selectors after a disappointing series against England last summer, replaced the uncapped slow-left-armer Abdur Rehman as the only change in the 15-man squad that was picked for the first two Tests.

Pakistan won the first Test in Lahore by nine wickets before drawing the second match here in Multan on Thursday.

Wasim Bari, the chairman of selectors, announced the change after a lengthy discussion with Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and team coach Bob Woolmer.

Sami’s inclusion also indicates the National Stadium pitch will be different to the one at the Multan Cricket Stadium where 1409 runs were scored for the loss of just 27 wickets.

If Pakistan opt for three specialist pace bowlers for the Test starting on Monday, then Sami, who has taken 73 wickets in 28 Tests at a relatively high average of 48.36, could be competing with the uncapped left-arm seamer Samiullah Niazi for a place.
