KARACHI: SHC bar elections tomorrow

KARACHI, Nov 23: The Sindh High Court Bar Association will go to the polls on Saturday, November 25th to elect its office-bearers and a managing committee for 2007.

Balloting will begin at 10am and close at 5pm with an hour’s lunch break from 1pm to 2pm. Counting will commence immediately after the polling. The unofficial results are expected to become known late in the evening, while an official notification will be issue don Monday.

There are triangular contests for the offices of president, vice-president and honorary secretary.

Professor Abrar Hasan, Khalid Hamid and Abdus Sattar are contesting for the top office; Chaudhry M. Saleemuzzaman, S.M. Gharibnawaz Daccawala and Syed Ziauddin Nasir are candidates for the post of vice-president. Amer Raza Naqvi, Ashiq Ali Anwar Rana and Munir-ur-Rahman are vying for the office of secretary. Ahmed Nafees Osmani and Niazamuddin Memon are contesting for the office of honorary joint secretary while Akhlaq Ahmed Khan and M.K. Badar are in the run for honorary treasurer.

Seventeen candidates are in the field for nine posts of managing committee up for election, they are: Ameeruddin Mayo, Azizuddin Qureshi, Junaid Mukhtar Siddiqui, Masood Ahmed Siddiqui, Mohammad Ismail Memon, Muhammad Ikram Siddiqui, Muhammad Qutubuzzaman, Mumtaz Ali Khan Deshmukh, S.M. Shuja Abbas, Saeeda Siddiqui, Sarwar Muhammad Khan, Shaikh Hamid Hassan, Ms Shahnaz Ishtiaq, Syed Maqi Meerza, Syed Nasir Abbas Rizvi, Z.K. Jatoi and Zahida Khatoon Naqvi.
