Man pays rivalry price

SAHIWAL, Nov 22: A man was killed and another four were injured when two rival groups traded fire near the gate of Civil Lines police station here on Wednesday.

Reports said that Sakhi Sarwar Rana of Muslim Bin Aqeel Colony and Ali Khan had a quarrel sometime in the past in Tariq Bin Ziad Colony. On Wednesday, Sakhi Sarwar and his colleagues were on their way by two rickshaws to the district courts in connection with a case when their rivals started firing on them.

They also returned the fire on their opponents, resulting in the death of Sakhi Sarwar and injuries to Ali Khan, Wali Khan, Waseem Irshad and driver Shahzad Ahmed. They were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital. Police resorted to baton-charge when men of both the groups reached the hospital to kill their opponents.

Civil Lines police registered a case against accused Farooq Afzal, Luqman, Zeeshan, Waseem Irshad, Ali Khan, Wali Khan and three others on the report of Anwar, brother of the deceased.

Police guards were deployed at hospital’s surgical ward.
