Nazim accused of depriving some areas of gas supply

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, Nov 22: A number of areas in Swabi have not been included in the list of plans which will get supply of gas under a scheme announced by the president during his visit to the district, sources said.

They alleged that District Nazim Shahram Khan had directed quarters concerned against providing gas to some areas, including Shagai, Gar, Naro Banda, Turlandi, Sheikh Jana, Shewa, Charbagh, Gohati, Salim Khan, Polodhand, Kernal Sher Kalli, Malikabad, Adina, Ismailia and Yar Hussain.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced during his visit to the district in January that gas facility would be provided to all areas of Swabi by year 2007. Federal Minister Amir Muqam has also made similar announcements on several occasions. When approached, the district nazim said some areas had not been included in the first phase of the Rs200 million scheme, adding that the facility would later be provided to all areas of the district.

ROAD BLOCKED: Islami Jamiat Tulaba activists blocked Swabi-Mardan road for an hour on Wednesday to protest against ban on student unions.

The students assembled at the Gohati bus stop and blocked the road for vehicular traffic.

Long rows of vehicles could be seen on both sides of the blockade.
