HYDERABAD, Nov 22: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has vowed to make Hyderabad the most literate district in the country.
Speaking as chief guest at the stone-lying ceremony for a primary school in Juma Goth, American Quarters, he said that this year the district government would spend Rs132.2 million on 56 educational schemes in all the talukas.
Mr Jamil said that the district government was establishing schools in every locality and would spend Rs3.9 million on the nine-room primary school in the goth.
The district, he said, would ensure that schools imparted quality education, adding that the district government had formed a committee to pay surprise visits to the schools and various other educational institutions and submit a report on the facilities available there.
He announced that a general hospital and a women’s ward would also be constructed at a cost of Rs3 million on Hali Road to cater to the needs of villagers.
Juma Goth Union Council Nazim Nasir Baloch, nazims of other UCs and councillors and members of district education committee as well as officers attended the function.
LUMHS: The syndicate of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) on Tuesday awarded promotions to the university teachers in light of instructions of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The meeting presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Jan Mohammad Memon approved promoting by one grade all the lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors and professors.
Under the HEC directives, 20 grade professors were promoted to grade-21, 17 grade lecturers to grade-18 and similarly senior lectures, assistant professor and associate professors also received an additional grade.
The syndicate approved allowances for the teachers of Basic Medical Sciences and sanctioned Rs15,000 for professors, Rs10,000 for associate professor, Rs7,500 for assistant professors and Rs5,000 for lecturers per month.
The meeting also raised medical allowance for all the university employees from grade-1 to grade-20 ranging between Rs600 to Rs1,000 per month.
