KARACHI, Nov 22: A Sindh Hich Court bench, stayed the shifting of a mosque to a public park near Karsaz and issued notices to the city district government and the Faisal Cantonment Board for December 6.
The petitioners, former chief secretary Shahjahan Karim, PPP MNA Fouzia Wahab and Taj Munawar approached the court against the approval of a plan for a mosque in Allahu Park by the Faisal Cantonment Board.
The petitioners, who live in the neighborhood and use the park, submitted that the mosque was originally situated under the National Stadium flyover in city government jurisdiction. It was being shifted to Allahu Park, KDA Scheme 1, which falls in the Faisal Cantonment Board purview, to facilitate the construction of the flyover.
No objections had been invited by the cantonment board or by the city district government from the residents.
POLICE RESTRAINED: In another interim order, the bench restrained the police and the anti-corruption establishment from proceeding against Father Joseph Paul, Principal of St Patrick’s School and former administrator of the Young Men’s Christian Association. Advocate Zahid Hamid informed the bench that the ex-administrator’s name had been inadvertently mentioned in a reference made by the YMCA committee appointed by the court. He was not named in the anti-corruption establishment’s report, which formed the basis of the reference. The bench issued notice to the advocate-general, who heads the committee, and restrained the respondents in the meanwhile.
