KARACHI: KESC opts for pre-fabricated grid stations

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 22: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has signed a contract with a private firm for the manufacture of pre-fabricated grid stations for the city to improve the corporation’s power transmission and distribution capacity.

It signed the contract with M/s Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) at a ceremony held at the KESC head office here on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the power utility said that the pre-fabricated grids would be installed at Pakistan Refinery Ltd., Korangi South, Gulshan-i-Maymar, near Finance and Trade Centre, Azizabad, Jail Road, Memon Goth, Malir, Tipu Sultan Road, and near Airport.

At present, the KESC has 52 conventional grid stations distributing electricity to the industrial, commercial, residential and agricultural consumers in the city. Three more grids are in the process of establishment in Mauripur, West Wharf and Old Town areas and two of them would start functioning by next April.

He said the KESC was striving to put the system improvement work on fast track. This would enable the utility to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers and overcome overloading by enhancing its transmission and distribution capacity.
