HYDERABAD, Nov 21: The district government has rejected allegations levelled against it by elected representatives of Qasimabad taluka that no development work has been carried out in the taluka.

It said that development schemes announced for the taluka were simply unprecedented.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, a spokesman for the district government said that water supply and sewerage projects worth tens of millions of rupees were being executed in Qasimabad. The spokesman said that some disgruntled and defeated elements were spreading misleading information.

He said that only recently water pipelines at pumping stations were being laid directly from the Indus river to the Jamshoro filter plant at a cost of Rs350 million.

He said that work on extension of water reservoir at the Jamshoro water works was proceeding at a hectic pace which would cost Rs25 million.

He said that heavy generators had been installed at pumping stations and a 60-inch diameter water pipeline at a cost of Rs415 million was being laid directly from the river to Thadi Sarak reservoir which would equally benefit the people of Qasimabad taluka.

He said that an amount of Rs72 million was being spent on improvement of Rani Bagh and zoo which were in Qasimabad taluka.

He said that an amount of Rs124.8 million was being spent on water storage (reservoir) in Qasimabad whereas an amount of Rs68 million was being spent on the sewerage pumping station in Sheedi Goth.

He said that the district government was also providing Rs100 million on the construction of southern treatment plant.

He cited many other development schemes costing tens of millions of rupees on the infrastructure of Qasimabad including the construction of new hospital, supply of latest hydraulic garbage lifting trucks, construction of one primary school in each union council, construction of a girls’ high school, an auditorium in the government girls’ degree college and many other projects.
