KARACHI, Nov 21: The additional district and sessions judge, South, Sher Bano Karim, sentenced on Tuesday a murderer to life imprisonment. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Mumtaz Hussain, who would have to undergo an additional six-month term in case of default on the payment.
The case was registered on the complaint of victim’s brother Syed Tahir Shah by the Mehmoodabad police on September 22, 1997.
The prime accused in the case was the first cousin of the victim who was declared a proclaimed offender by the court. The judge ordered that the case against absconder be kept on dormant file till his arrest.
Absconder Ahmed Shah, victim Shireen Shah and convict Mumtaz Hussain were co-workers at a garment factory. According to prosecution, accused Ahmed Shah wanted to marry the fiancée of the victim and he along with his friend Mumtaz planned the murder of his cousin.
Ahmed Shah and Mumtaz stabbed the victim at their workplace. Ahmed Shah fled the scene, while Mumtaz was apprehended.
WARRANTS ISSUED: The additional district and sessions judge, South, Ghulam Mustafa Memon, issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the Preedy police SHO.
The judge put off the hearing of the case till November 27 and ordered production of the SHO.
