PESHAWAR, Nov 17: Members of the Lashkar-i-Islami set on fire houses of supporters of their rival group, Insarul Islam, in the Akakhel area in the Bara tehsil on Friday, sources said.
They said that armed supporters of the Lashker-i-Islami headed by Mangel Bagh attacked a residential compounds belonging to their rivals in the Zawa area, some 24 kilometres west of the Bara tehsil in the Khyber Agency and burnt four houses.
The sources said that armed tribesmen looted the houses of Arman, Serwan, Sayed Merjan and Sandan and then set them on fire. The followers of the two religious groups had earlier clashed in the Akakhel area on Thursday in which 17 people had died, 14 of them belonged to the Insarul Islam group.
The sources said that the Akakhel tribe had succumbed to the Lashker-i-Islami after initial resistance following intense clashes.
They said that activists of the Lashker-i-Islami group had resumed its activity in the Bara area despite the fact that the administration had banned the organisation and expelled its chief from the area.
