KARACHI, Nov 17: The main road connecting Orangi and Baldia towns has turned into a narrow strip of bumpy track insufficient for the heavy load of traffic plying on it.
Ditches in the middle of the road make it all the more dangerous for the motorists. Despite repeated orders of the Sindh governor, the construction companies are employing tactics to complete the work on Shahrah-i-Orangi.
One track of the road from Banaras to Orangi No 5 has been completed and opened for traffic, but people have again started digging it to set up speed breakers near the Metro Cinema without any check from the concerned authorities.
The pace of work on the parallel track is extremely slow and the road’s condition is pathetic, causing frequent traffic jams on the main artery.
Craters have begun to emerge on the newly constructed road from Islam Chowk to Daba Mor which point towards the use of substandard material in its construction.
The pace of work on the road from Daba Mor to Chishti Nagar is extremely slow and both the tracks are dilapidated. Work on the other road from ‘L’ Block to Eidgah kicked off last month with the removal of encroachments, which was again stopped reportedly due to some sort of litigation.
At the time of demolishing the commercial buildings the rubble was thrown on the road, which caused a blockade in the main sewerage line due to which the main Orangi-Baldia road turned into a sewage pool.
To avoid accidents, motorists now use the streets of Raja Tanveer Colony, which is another problem for residents of the area.
The Baldia road from Eidgah to Baldia No 8 is in a bad condition, but despite all these problems the elected representatives of the area are taking no action to solve these issues.
