PESHAWAR, Nov 16: A delegation of parliamentarians belonging to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas called on NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai here on Thursday and discussed with him matters pertaining to the law and order situation and development activities in Fata.

The delegation, comprising Senator Hamidullah Jan Afridi, Senator Hafiz Abdul Malik and MNA Maulana Noorul Haq belonging to Khyber Agency, expressed concern over growing activities of certain political parties in tribal areas.

They said tribal people had their own system of administration and tribal culture where mainstream political parties did not auger well.

They pointed out that the Political Parties Act had not been extended to Fata and therefore political elements trying to establish their presence there should give up their activities.

They called upon the governor that the ban already imposed on political activities in Fata should be strictly implemented. The governor assured the delegation that the ban would be strictly implemented and all steps would be taken to maintain peaceful atmosphere in tribal areas.

He emphasised that a calm and quiet atmosphere is prerequisite for progress and development of tribal areas. He said the government was using all resources for speedy development of Fata.

Mr Aurakzai said Fata elected representatives would be consulted in preparation of development plans.
