PPP candidate wins Shikarpur by-poll

SHIKARPUR, Nov 16: The candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party won on Thursday the by-election for the Sindh Assembly seat PS-11 in Shikarpur.

According to unofficial results announced by the presiding officer, Agha Taimoor Khan of the PPP bagged 22,331 votes while his rival Maqbool Shaikh of the PML got 18,540 votes.

Voter turnout was 25 to 30 per cent.

Polling for the by-election was held peacefully, except minor disputes at two places.

The seat had fallen vacant after the death of Agha Tariq Khan of the PPP.

There were three candidates in the field, Agha Taimoor Khan (PPP), Maqbool Shaikh (PML) and Mian Zafar Ali Alvi (independent).
