PESHAWAR, Nov 16: Speakers at a seminar held here on Thursday underlined the need for adopting modern trends and technologies for the promotion of e-business, saying that it would strengthen economy of the country.

The seminar on ‘E-business: prospects and challenges’ was held by the Institute of Management Sciences, Hayatabad, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, the Marketing and Management Consultants and the Apollo Advertisers at the Area Study Centre, University of Peshawar.

The institute’s director Nasser Ali Khan said e-business had contributed to the country’s economic growth in recent years. He stressed the importance of trained human resources.

NWFP government’s representative Umer Anwar Sheikh said an information technology policy and legal framework had to be developed besides basic network and infrastructure.

He said the provincial data warehouse should be developed and linked with the national database.

Mr Sheikh said there was also shortage of information technology teachers.

He said the provincial land record was being computerised and a website of the NWFP government had been launched.

He said the government was committed to taking steps to improve the sector.

The experts spoke on various issues related to e-business, network security, increasing impact of internet technology in business and its application to the national economy.
