Demand for implementing Wage Award

KARACHI, Nov 16: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation have urged the federal government to ensure implementation of the Seventh Wage Award.

The two organisations set up a committee to chalk out a course of action following emergency meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The committee will work out a protest programme in consultation with affiliated unions if the government does not take any measures regarding the implementation of the wage award by Nov 20.

The two organisations also urged parliamentarians to support newspaper employees.

They demanded that the system of contractual employment be ended. They said poor wages and contractual employment were the cause of growing corruption in the field of journalism.—PPI
