KARACHI, Nov 16: A non-governmental organization has challenged the ban on pillion riding in the Sindh High Court.

The petitioner, Pasban, submitted through Advocate Ibrahim Azmi that the provincial government and the police force, in order to cover up their failure to arrest the culprits involved in street crimes, had clamped the ban on pillion riding under Section 144 on pillion ridding.

“The ban is unjust and will cause hardship to the poor and middle income groups.”

An identical ban was earlier challenged in 1999 when the high court held that a six-month restriction on pillion riding was not sustainable under Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure.

APPEAL ALLOWED: Justice Azizullah Memon of the Sindh High Court partially allowed the appeal of a double murder convict and remitted the life term awarded to him to 10 years’ imprisonment.
