PML-N mass contact drive to continue

Published November 16, 2006

LAHORE, Nov 15: Punjab PML-N president Sirdar Zulfikar Khosa says his party has completed the first round of its mass contact campaign in the province, but the drive will continue till the next election.

At a news conference after a meeting of the party’s working committee here on Wednesday, he said as a result of the PML-N leaders’ visits to various districts the party had got an opportunity to assess its position from the election point of view. District coordinators would prepare separate reports on the subject and present them to Mian Nawaz Sharif at their meeting in London next month, Mr Khosa said.

Secretary-general Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, parliamentary party leader Rana Sanaullah Khan, Rana Mashood Khan, Rafiq Rajwana, Naseer Bhutta, Ijaz Hafiz and others were present at the news conference.

Mr Khosa said since the ruling party could go for snap polls, the PML-N was preparing itself for the challenge. The central leadership would take a decision on electoral alliance or adjustments with other parties, he added.

He said the results of the 2002 election could not be made a yardstick to judge the popularity of any party as their credibility was questionable. Despite all foul methods used by the ruling party, the PML-N had polled third highest number of votes, he claimed. —Staff Reporter
