TIMERGARA/KHAAR: ANP, levy men clash at Fata entry post

Dawn Report

TIMERGARA/KHAAR, Nov 15: A clash between ANP workers and levy force took place at the Tor Ghundi checkpost when the party's president Asfandyar Wali Khan leading a big procession was refused entry into the tribal agency on Wednesday.

The levy force used tear gas shells and fired in the air when the workers moved ahead to cross the barriers erected on the road near the checkpost.

Earlier, the workers assembled in the Munda area in the Lower Dir district and took out a procession towards Cheenagai village to offer condolences to relatives of the people killed in the madressah raid and to express solidarity with them.

As the marchers reached Qadhafi Phatak near the Tor Ghundi area, the political authorities of Bajaur refused entry to them which infuriated the marchers and the clash took place.

The authorities used tear gas and fired shots in the air to disperse the marchers.

Later, a public meeting was held at the Mian Kalli in Munda which was addressed by Asfandyar Wali Khan and other leaders.

Mr Khan termed the incidents of Bajaur and Dargai as a conspiracy against the Pukhtun nation, saying that the party leadership would go wherever excesses were committed against the people.

Mr Khan said he had already predicted that it would be Bajaur after Waziristan to crush the Pukhtuns.

He asked President Pervez Musharraf that why such action was not taken against those terrorists who were living in the Punjab. He said that the Pukhtuns were a patriotic nation and they hated terrorism in all its forms.

The ANP leader said that it was inevitable to collect Pukhtuns at a single platform to ward off the threats. For this purpose, he said that the party had convened a Pukhtun jirga of all shades to discuss the situation so that further bloodshed of Pukhtuns could be prevented.
