AL suspendsblockade

DHAKA, Nov 15: The Awami League-led alliance on Wednesday suspended its indefinite ‘blockade’, which the political combine enforced from Sunday, demanding removal of chief election commissioner and overhauling of the civil administration.

Awami League president and leader of the 14-party alliance, Sheikh Hasina, announced the postponement at a press briefing at her Dhanmondi residence on Wednesday, but warned the authorities that she would resume the blockade on Monday if the demands are not met by Sunday.

The blockade and political agitation led to the death of an Awami League worker in the capital and left over 300 injured. It also cut off the capital from rest of the country as all the communication systems were snapped.

The fourth day of indefinite blockade ended amidst tension and tight security in the capital and elsewhere in the country on Wednesday.

The blockade paralysed the country for four consecutive days.
