PESHAWAR, Nov 14: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday acquitted a person of drug trafficking and set aside his conviction by a subordinate court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan and Justice Dost Mohammad Khan accepted an appeal filed by the accused Imtiaz Khan of Sarband.
The appellant was arrested on March 5, 2004, by Gulbahar police. Police claimed that he was standing near some cartons placed on a pavement with 72 boxes of gear oil, in which 69kg of charas was concealed.
An additional district and sessions judge had convicted the appellant on May 21, 2005, and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 200,000.
The appellant's counsel Noor Alam Khan argued that he was just a passer-by.
