WB chief heads to Europe

WASHINGTON, Nov 13: World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz headed to Europe on Monday to meet British and top European Union officials before attending a high-level gathering of finance chiefs in Australia, officials said.

Wolfowitz was to meet British ministers and non-governmental organisations in London, and then address the European Union parliament’s development committee in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

In Brussels on Wednesday, Wolfowitz was to meet EU foreign affairs chief Javier Solana and development and aid commissioner Louis Michel.

The World Bank chief was to head on to the Australian city of Melbourne to attend a November 18-19 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20, a bloc of major industrialised and developing economies.—AFP
