Minister seeks opposition’s support on autonomy bill

By Our Correspondent

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Nov 12: Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Salim Saifullah Khan has said a two-third majority is needed to get the provincial autonomy bill passed by parliament and to scrap the concurrent list.

He was speaking to journalists during a visit to Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.

Mr Saifullah said that the opposition parties' boycott of the committee on provincial autonomy was aimed at denying credit to the government for resolving this long-standing issue.

"We want two-third majority and also want the opposition to support the government as it is impossible to amend the constitution or scrap the concurrent list without the required parliamentary strength," he said.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the prevailing law and order situation in the country and said that investigations into the Dargai suicide attack were headed in the right direction. The elements behind the attack on the army base in Dargai would be brought to book soon, he said.
