KARACHI: Pollution monitoring system soon: minister

KARACHI, Nov 11: Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Dr Saghir Ahmed has said the government will devise a monitoring system for the protection of environment, which will reduce the land, air and water pollution.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday, he said in the future enforcement of international environmental laws would be the main requirement for exports.

He urged industrialists, businessmen and transporters to follow the example of installation of the Combined Treatment Plant by the Korangi leather industry to save the industrial area and the city from pollution.

He noted that the government wanted to bring about a genuine economic and industrial revolution with the cooperation of the business community and expected them to join hands with the government in providing a pollution-free environment to citizens.

He was of the opinion that littering of effluent in public places was creating problems for various localities, and added that the flow of untreated poisonous waste and sewage into the sea was damaging marine habitats and this must be stopped.—PPI
