7,000 vie for 80 posts in revenue department

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Nov 9: More than 7,000 candidates on Thursday appeared in a test for 80 posts in the revenue department in Sukkur. Candidates belonging to Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Ghotki and other districts appeared in the written test for posts of junior account, supervisor, office secretary, clerk and peon.

The test was held in the Jinnah Municipal Stadium in two shifts from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

The number of actual candidates was more than 7,000 as hundreds of candidates solved the paper while sitting on ground because the administration failed to make seating arrangement for them.

Heavy contingent of police was deployed at the venue to avert any untoward incident.

Officials of the revenue department supervised the test.

DIFFERENCES: Drainage scheme for Jacobabad has sparked serious differences between the Awam Dost taluka nazim and the district Nazim.

Both are charging each other for corruption.

Jacobabad Taluka Nazim Sajjad Jakhrani told newsmen that the district government had failed miserably to provide basic amenities to the people.

He said that no development work had been carried out and the district government was spending millions of rupees over unnecessary works while no attention was being paid to the drainage scheme.

He also charged the the nazim of favoritism and nepotism.

District Nazim Begum Saeeda Soomro denying the corruption charges, said that development works were being carried out on the priority basis.

She said that sanitation was the task of taluka nazim and heaps of garbage could be seen in the city. She said that the Sindh government had granted Rs9.7 millions for sanitation to the taluka nazim, but the amount was not spent on the sanitation.
