KARACHI: PPP resents move to replace nazim

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 9: Sindh PPP chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah has accused the Sindh government of contemplating removal of Bin Qasim Town Nazim Umer Jatt to replace him with a ruling party member.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Shah said that the Sindh government was backing those who had convened a meeting of the town council for this purpose.

Referring to the summoning of town council meeting on Friday, he said the notice issued for the meeting was illegal as there was no agenda, justification or cause mentioned for convening the meeting.

He alleged the government and its allied parties wanted to impose a puppet nazim just to protect their interests as in it’s jurisdiction were the two Islands which the government wanted to sell away. Besides, he added, the town had also the PS and PQA and not only the city government, but the provincial and even the federal government were willing to capture the town’s resources.

The senior PPP leader said that the PPP opposed sale of islands as it was a matter of principal, maintaining that allotment of land was purely a provincial subject and not the federal one.
