KARACHI, Nov 9: As elsewhere the birth anniversary of Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal was celebrated in the metropolis on Thursday. A number of functions were held on the occasion to pay homage to the great poet and philosopher.
The National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi, organised an exhibition of the personal belongings of Allama Iqbal including his costumes, books and publications.
The exhibition was held on Thursday from 10am to 5pm at the National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi.
A number of people as well as students from various educational institutions visited the exhibition.
Sir Adamjee Institute: The Iqbal Day was celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour at the Sir Adamjee Institute (SAI), Hussainabad Karachi here on Thursday.
Dr Syed Jaffar Ahmed, Director Pakistan Study Centre, University of Karachi was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, Dr Ahmed highlighted the primacy of Iqbal's works in contemporary era that provided a road map for issues plaguing the modern world.
He also underlined the philosophical and intellectual brainstorming required to understand the literary works of one of the most farsighted and visionary poets this part of world had ever produced.
Allama Iqbal's thoughts on democracy are as relevant and apt in today's Pakistan, he added.
Dr Ahmed also lauded the efforts of the Sir Adamjee Institute in making the Iqbal day a permanent feature of its academic calendar.
He was also impressed by the renditions of Iqbal's poetry by students.
On the occasion, a debate competition in English and Urdu besides an art contest was also held. Quiz competition was the highlight of the day's proceedings.
The class XII (pre-engineering) was declared the winner with 200 points.
Earlier, Najeeb Anjum, Principal SAI, paid tributes to the national poet.
The chief guest distributed awards to the winners of various contests. Later the principal presented the college crest to the chief guest.—APP/PPI
