HYDERABAD, Nov 8: The Pakistan People’s Party has alleged that the government has deliberately left out of voter lists 30 per cent eligible voters, majority of whom reside in the areas which are traditionally party strongholds.
A divisional party meeting decided to approach the Election Commission to ensure all voters had their names on the voter lists.
Deputy opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly and PPP divisional president Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman presided over the meeting.
Mr Jamil told reporters after the meeting that the ruling party and their partners had ensured that each and every voter who supported them was enrolled but not those who supported the PPP.
He said that the election staff had acted like managers of ruling parties and not even taken into account the fact that the recent heavy rains left in their wake a large number of eligible voters shelter-less who could not get their names registered.
The party would first approach the provincial election commissioner, if it failed to solve the problem then the party high command would meet with the chief election commissioner, he said.
Referring to by-election in Shikarpur, he feared a repeat of the large scale rigging which he claimed was witnessed in the by-elections in Tharparkar, Karachi and Hyderabad.
Mr Jamil said that he had recently met with the party chairperson who directed him to reorganise the party on a sound footings.
The district party presidents were directed to make preparations for Ms Bhutto’s return as well as for holding the anniversary of party’s foundation.
He demanded that the government should withdraw false cases registered against Ms Bhutto during last ten years, release all leaders and allow the exiled leaders to return.
MPA Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, Haji Mohammad Amin Lakho and Arbab Wazeer Memon also attended the meeting.
TRAINING PROGRAMME: The Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of the Faculty of Education, University of Sindh, on Tuesday launched its first faculty development training programme for university teachers.
A total of 35 assistant professors, lecturers and research associates from different departments of the university are attending the workshop which runs till November 30.
Deans and senior professors of the university as well as other public and private sector universities of the province are resource persons in the workshop.
The Faculty of Education Dean Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar inaugurated the workshop and thanked the National Academy of Higher Education of HEC for providing technical and financial support for organising the workshop.
