KARACHI, Nov 8: A former Afghan commander of the Hikmatyar group was arrested in the Peerabad area in an early morning raid, police said. A senior officer of the CID said that Haji Atta Muhammad alias Commander was associated with the Hizb-i-Islami (Hikmatyar) back in Afghanistan. He disassociated himself with his organization and crossed over to Pakistan sometime back, police said.

The suspect was living in the Peerabad area and had formed a group comprising Afghans, Uzbeks, SP Fayyaz Khan said.

However, his accomplices could not be arrested in the raid, police said.

The suspect was working as a contract killer, the SP said, adding that he also used to supply arms to some jihadi outfits.
