Sikhs call for Afzal Guru’s acquittal

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Nov 7: Shromani Akali Dal, Amritsar, (UK chapter) president S Varinder Singh Bittu and secretary-general S Lovshinder Singh Dalewal have said India would have to acquit Afzal Guru if it wanted peace in the region.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, they threatened that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir would worsen if New Delhi hanged Afzal Guru because there was no solid proof against him. He had been convicted merely on the basis of circumstantial evidence, but people Like Vajpaee, Advani and Narinder Modi were not punished despite being in the vanguard in Babri Masjid demolition and involvement in genocide of Muslims in Gujarat.
