KARACHI: Nazim inspects uplift projects


KARACHI, Nov 7: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that prior to the IDEAS 2006 programme work is in full swing on Rs1.84 billion signal-free corridor and foreign delegates would have a happy surprise on seeing the extra-ordinary developmental activities.

He said the area would be made beautiful so that delegates coming from abroad and from all over Pakistan could feel a change in the city. He said the delegates to the exhibition would be hosted a grand civic reception at the newly constructed Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim for which all preparations had been made.

The nazim paid a five-hour visit to various city areas on the midnight of Monday and Tuesday along with DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDO Works and Services Amanullah Chachar, DO for Parks Liaquat Ali and other officials.

He particularly visited the roads leading to Expo Center, the venue for “Gift to Karachi IDEAS-2006”, and issued directives for their beautification.

He said it would be a major exhibition which would be visited by VIP delegations and guests from world over. He said the city government would make all arrangements for the big event.

During the visit, Mustafa Kamal visited various development projects, including the Rs140 million Karsaz-Sharea Faisal bridge.

On the occasion, he was informed that the project suffered considerable delay. However, the work was now fast progressing and 85 per cent task had been completed. It was informed that the Karsaz-Sharea Faisal intersection would be beautified in connection with the exhibition.

During his visit to the National Stadium flyover, the nazim was told that this flyover had been constructed in a record period at a cost of Rs450 million. The flyover was ready and would be opened for traffic before IDEAS-2006.

The nazim directed that work on roads under flyover should be expeditiously completed while work on installation of lights and painting of lanes be completed within the next few days.

At the site of Hasan Square flyover, the nazim was informed that the construction of this Rs450 million flyover was decided in view of the growing traffic flow from here. The work had almost been completed on a fast track in three shifts and it would be opened soon.

The nazim also visited the work on under-passes at Gharibabad, Liaquatabbad and Nazimabad and reviewed the pace of work.

The development works at three underpasses is in progress at a cost of Rs135 million, Rs350 and Rs360 million respectively.

It was stated that the second track of Liaquatabad and Nazimabad underpasses would also be completed soon and the work on walls and roof filling was about to complete.

Later, Mustafa Kamal visited Bagh IIbn-i-Qasim and said that it was more beautiful by all standards than the world's modern parks.—APP
