KARACHI: Sana assails appointments in education department for Mirpurkhas

KARACHI, Nov 07: The chief of the Sindhi Association of North America (Sana) has accused Gen Pervez Musharraf and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of pursuing policies which are tantamount to denying the indigenous people of smaller provinces their rights and maintained that their claim of creating a society based on justice and respect for law was a hoax.
In a message to the media, Sana chief Aziz Narejo expressed concern over recent appointments in the education department in Mirpurkhas and alleged that selection of a vast majority of candidates was made in London where the MQM’s International Secretariat was located.
The Sana chief pointed out that Gen Musharraf and the MQM have repeatedly said that they wanted to end injustices and create a society where everyone gets his or her due and referred to MQM pronouncements on this
Gen Musharraf made several trips to Sindh and publicly acknowledged injustices against the province.
He said the province had been denied its due share in economic development, employment, distribution of water and financial resources among other fields. But, Mr Narejo maintained that these were merely empty words.
The people of Sindh remained worse off than ever before. They continue to be denied their political, economic, cultural and other rights.
They are not getting their due share in waters of the Indus River System and more funds are being stolen away from them than in the past. They are now also being dispossessed of their remaining lands in cities and the countryside inland and offshore, said Mr Narejo.
Pointing finger at the dictatorship for the break-up of the country in the past, the Sana chief referred to the prevailing situation in Balochistan and in Pakhtoon tribal areas, the undercurrents in Afghanistan and ‘gross injustices’ to the people of Sindh.
An unrepresentative, undemocratic set-up has been imposed on the country that has the first priority to hold on to the power at any cost, he said.
He held that such elements would be responsible for an imminent catastrophe, and not those who demand a just, lawful, constitutional, representative and democratic system where everyone gets his/her due rights.
