GUJAR KHAN, Nov 6: Seven people, including a brigadier and his wife, were killed and three others were critically injured when an over speeding Rawalpindi-bound car collided head-on with another car coming from opposite direction near Missa Kaswal, about seven km from Gujar Khan city, on Monday, police said.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gujar Khan Raja Taifur Akhtar Janjuha told reporters that the car coming from Lahore went out of control of its driver, crossed median of the dual carriageway and collided with the official car of Brigadier Ali Ghalib who was going, along with his family, to Mangla cantonment where he had lately been posted. He said due to midnight dark, a Faisalabad-bound bus also rammed into the smashed car of the brigadier and added to the miseries of its inmates.
In the accident Brigadier Ali Ghalib sustained serious injuries while his wife Samina Ghalib and driver Mumtaz died on the spot. The brigadier succumbed to the injuries on his way to the CMH Rawalpindi.
According to the SDPO, seven members of a family were on board the Rawalpindi bound car. Four of them — driver Akhlaq, Hadiqa, Ashfaq and four-year-old Faraz Ahmed — died at the spot while three — Aftab Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmed and Khalida Tabassum — sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a Rawalpindi hospital. He said the family, hailing from Sarai Alamgir, was going to the Islamabad airport to see off their two relatives going to Italy.
