Khurram, Naveen start campaign on winning note
KARACHI, Nov 6: Pakistan's Khurram Agha and Naveen Perwani got off to a winning start in the IBSF World snooker championship at Amman, Jordan, according to information received here on Monday.
Reigning national champion Khurram Agha, placed in group ‘B’, thrashed Murad of Jordan 30-61, 60-31, 57-19, 65-20, 100-13.
In his second match, Khurram was in much better form while routing David Palmeiro of France in four straight frames 84-12, 53-14, 73-26, 76-14.
Placed in group ‘G’, Naveen Perwani dropped two frames before overcoming Chih-Wei Ku of Taiwan 4-2 after seesaw first match.
He took the opening frame 64-36 but Chih won the second. Naveen gained 3-1 advantage by picking next two frames.Naveen lost the penultimate but sealed victory when won the decider 67-47.
Seasoned campaigner Naveen looked in a commanding touch while handing out 4-0 drubbing to Latvian Sergei Kolcov in his second group outing. Naveen controlled the game from start to finish as his opponent managed just 49 points in all four frames. Naveen raced to 66-16, 61-08, 88-0, 52-17 win.
Top four players from each of the eight groups will advance in the pre-quarterfinal round.
