KARACHI: Hunger strike


KARACHI, Nov 6: Shipyard workers under the aegis of Karachi Shipyard Workers Solidarity Committee started their ‘protest week’ against the ban imposed on trade union activities by holding a hunger strike camp outside Karachi Press Club on Monday.Leaders of trade union, political and social organisations visited the camp. They included Rahim Bukhsh Bhutto, Saleh Muhammad, Syed Ali Shah, Muhammad Akram, Mukhtiar Awan, Muhammad Hayat, Ziaur Rehman of SDPI, Nadir Khan Niazi and others.

A large number of workers visited the camp to express their solidarity with the protesting workers.

Later, Munawar Raza of the Workers League, Muhammad Qasim Anwar of the National Trade Union Federation and Labour Party Pakistan Chairperson Shehla Rizwan persuaded protesting workers to take juice to end their hunger strike.

The protest camp would continue till Nov 11.—PPI
