KARACHI, Nov 5: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for prompt completion of development works in the city’s housing schemes.
He was presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House which reviewed the progress made in respect of new housing schemes and revival of pending ones.
The officials concerned apprised the meeting of the progress of works on various housing schemes of Malir and Lyari development authorities.
The governor directed the LDA to make progress on Halkani Town Scheme, besides the Hawkesbay Scheme.
He pointed out that the present government was paying full attention on housing projects by reviving long pending schemes as well as launching the new ones. He warned that no lethargy or negligence in this regard would be tolerated.
He directed that a new beautiful housing scheme be conceived with Hawkesbay and hillocks being in the background.
He emphasised on making room for wide roads, water, electricity and other basic necessities in all the schemes and completing the same within the stipulated time. Space should also be reserved for desalination plants, he added.
The governor was informed that as per his directive, work was being carried out at an accelerated pace to carve out more plots in the Hawkesbay Scheme. He was told that 10,000 plots measuring 80 sq-yards each for people of low-income group would be made ready during the current month for balloting while processing for balloting of plots measuring 120, 240 and 400 sq-yards was under way.
The meeting noted that physical possession of all the plots for which balloting had already been done would be given in record one-year time whereas the work on resolving the issue of the plots pending for 15 years was also being expedited and possession of 10,000 plots in blocks 11, 12, 31 and 32 was being given to the allottees.
It was stated that formalities were being completed to give possession of 3,000 plots allottees of which had cleared all dues.
The allottees of Blocks 27, 28 and 30 will be given possession immediately after payment of occupancy cost and essential transfer of record while possession of remaining plots will be given in one year.
The meeting was also told that the work on computerisation of land record concerning housing schemes was in progress. It was also informed that a suggestion for balloting of 240 and 400 square yard plots for overseas Pakistanis in the next three months was under study.
It was stated that the work on incremental housing scheme having 80 and 120 square yard plots for low-income group people was also in progress and the scheme would be launched soon.
The meeting was informed that 67 per cent work had been completed on the only road leading to Hawkesbay Housing Scheme and the coast. The work on this road had been started in June last year at a cost of Rs193 million and it would be completed by the end of this year.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Mohammed Hussain, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, ACS Mirza Karim Baig and Special Secretary Javed Hanif, besides EDO revenue, project director and other officials.—APP
