KARACHI, Nov 5: Speakers on the second day of the MQRDC International Conference 2006 here on Sunday called for broad-based research applying advanced techniques for proper and planned and realistic development to bring the developing countries at par with developed industrialised nations.
The two-day conference was organised by the faculty of Arts, University of Karachi, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission.
The speakers pointed out various complexities of conducting qualitative research in traditional societies of the developing countries and ethical issues related to uplift.
They said that quality of research must not be compromised at any cost and urged the governments to properly implement the results of research through policy-making.
The speakers included Ali Shirazi of Mashad University, Iran, Prof Ahmed Ali Khan, Lord Shaukat Nawaz Khan, Dr Adrain Holliday, Prof Diana Leonard from UK, Dr Yin Cheong Cheng from Bangkok and others
The sessions were followed by an extensive panel discussion covering a wide range of issues.
On the occasion, the KU vice-chancellor presented commemorative shields and certificates to the foreign and local guest speakers and participants and volunteers of the conference.—PPI
